What is the AFS Student Learning Journey 2.0?

The upgraded Student Learning Journey takes a step further on local orientations, monthly contacts and learning reflections, by including the opportunity for students to meet virtually and learn as part of a global cohort. We have joined forces with the University of Pennsylvania’s (UPenn) to create an updated curriculum which is specifically targeted to exchange program participants, beginning in NH20. It combines the existing journey with theories for social impact, so that students can pilot a social intervention during their AFS journey, equipping them to become Active Global Citizens. This program is for 18- AFS mobility program students as part of their Student Learner Journey.

What is the workload?

On-boarding & training: up to 10 hours of online learning and a 90-min online live training webinar.
Facilitated dialogue sessions: up to FIVE 90-min online live sessions during the calendar year.

What participants say about this program

“I love seeing participants from all over the world working together, and I’m super happy I can be part of this program. Not only do the participants learn from the modules, but I also learn as a facilitator from the participants.”

Anke Prinsen – AFS NED

Being a facilitator of the SLJ has really sharpened my facilitation skills. I can interpret content more easily now and deliver it according to the needs of my audience. It has made me more organized in terms of planning my time.”

Brian Musyoki – AFS KEN

“The SLJ2.0 was a wonderful opportunity to review the basics of cross-cultural communication with fellow AFS interculturalists. It permitted me an opportunity to familiarize myself with online training as well as hone my online training skills. Moreover, it convinced me that online training can indeed work well, not only for conveying content but also for building relationships with students and fellow volunteers from around the world.”
