What is an Ideathon?
A global 2-day digital event (a hackathon for ideas – ideathon) with AFSers (and other interested people) around the world bringing forward solutions for AFS.

More than 300 people from 70 countries participated in the AFS Global Ideathon (4-6 September 2020) to work collaboratively on innovative ideas for addressing global challenges. Envisaged as a hackathon for ideas – ideathon, this global 48-hour digital event brought forward solutions to the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was designed by dedicated AFS volunteers, more than 50,000 strong worldwide, who are deeply passionate about our global impact and mission to make the world more just and peaceful.
AFS was founded a hundred years ago as a response to a global crisis. The current pandemic has already changed the world drastically and makes the future of AFS and all international exchange programs harder to predict.
At the same time, international and intercultural collaboration is crucial to handling outbreaks, stabilizing economies and saving lives. Everyone’s protection relies on collaboration more than ever.
COVID-19 is forcing AFS to rethink how it’s mission can be fulfilled today, but simultaneously, it’s values and strengths are at the core of the solutions needed for this global crisis.
Let’s find and develop ideas that strengthen societies around the globe, shape the future of intercultural education and lead to a more just and peaceful world.
